In a move that highlights Turkey’s growing commitment to sustainability and construction quality, the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) will begin mandatory implementation of updated thermal insulation standards in buildings starting tomorrow.
The updated standard expands climate zone classifications from 4 to 6, enabling customized thermal insulation systems tailored to each region’s conditions. It also introduces advanced criteria covering energy efficiency, heating and cooling performance, and building material specifications, with the goal of reducing energy bills by up to 25%.
Authorities project annual energy savings of 2.5 terawatt-hours, equivalent to the three-month output of the Atatürk Dam, alongside a carbon emission reduction of 600 million tons, boosting Turkey’s position as a leader in eco-friendly construction.
This development presents a strategic opportunity for real estate investors, as properties adhering to these standards are expected to gain more appeal and profitability in the Turkish market.
